Pack n Play
I'd put a Pack n Play in the top five for sure!! You take it on road trips as the baby's safe bed/play space. Anywhere. Visiting relatives. etc. (Not everyone's house is baby-proofed and soft.) We kept it in our living room when our first was a baby, so I could be close by while she was always napping. I worried that the baby would suffocate while I was out of earshot. Loved it and used it till they could crawl out of it.
Oh--AND the pack n play we got had a removable bassinet on the top half, for when they aren't turning over and crawling yet. Very handy, so you don't have to bend over so far to pick em up. (Especially good for C-section recovery) BUT small bassinets take up a lot less room, so if you can get both, I would.
Onesies
Get onesies that SNAP up the front. SO much easier to put on a bobblehead. Just lay it down, open, and put baby on top. So much better for diaper changing too. I don't know why they make any other kind. You do not want to try to sit a baby up, to pull something over its wobbly head, no matter how cute and fashionable.
Blankets
They make great swaddling blankets called "Swaddle Me" that stay shut with velcro. Then you don't have to worry (again) about the smothering while they sleep. This is for after they start wiggling. When they are super young, you should swaddle more tightly with those cute flannel blankets that all the hospitals use.
When they get older they can use the Halo Sleepsack, the awesome zipper blanket vest thing!
Pillows
Boppy is good, but I tried a funny contraption called "My Brest Friend" which was WAY more comfortable. It straps around you, and you can even walk to the kitchen and get a drink, while you're nursing!
Slings
I used a sling and a Snugli. I wished I had plopped down the money for a Baby Bjorn. Others seemed very happy with theirs. Again, when they are brand new and super wobbly, it's hard to insert them into a carrier.
